In 1912, Monarch Oil started as the Berlin Oil & Grease Company, featuring Monarch Brand Lubricants and distributing to Berlin (now Kitchener), Waterloo, and the surrounding communities of southwestern Ontario.

​

In 1916, proprietor Bill Burns changed the name of his company to Monarch Oil to coincide with the name change of the community of Berlin to Kitchener. The business was operated successfully with the help of R.H. Hodgins, and E.D. Weber Oils & Greases.

​

In 1939, Mr. Weber sold the business to his son, Bruce Weber, who went on to become Mayor of the City of Kitchener.

​

In 1952, Monarch Oil moved to a new facility at 808 Victoria St. North and continued to service its growing customer base for 60+ years.

In 1985, Bruce Weber sold Monarch Oil to his employees.

​

On January 5th, 2015, was sold to its current owner Tuxton Inc. and continues to operate as a locally managed Canadian company.

In September 2015, Monarch Oil moved to its current location at 2216 Shirley Drive, Kitchener, ON, near Conestoga Parkway (Hwy86) and Hwy 7. The new 17,000-square-foot facility features a climate-controlled +500,000 litre tank farm, and multiple loading docks providing convenient access for customer pick-ups, and incoming and outgoing deliveries.

In late 2020, with an eye toward the future, an additional 13,000 square feet of warehouse space was added to ensure consistent and reliable service and supply to our business partners.

​

Monarch Oil today supplies an extensive line of quality branded and unbranded lubricants, solvents, chemicals, antifreeze, filters, metal working fluids, food grade lubricants, specialty products, cleaning supplies, maintenance supplies, and lubrication equipment, in quantities as small as an aerosol can to full tank truck deliveries.

Monarch Oil has become a well-known and trusted supplier to the automotive, farm, heavy-duty fleet, construction, and manufacturing industry. Deliveries are available to Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph, Stratford, London, Brantford, Toronto, and the GTA, Hamilton, St. Catharines, Owen Sound, Walkerton, Goderich, and Orangeville.
